Hi,
I saw that you have some information on inventing at http://www.triz-guide.com/ and I wanted to let you know
about a free patent searching site, www.FreePatentsOnline.com.
The site has more data and features than the USPTO or any other free site. I hope it will be a great
resource for the inventing community.
If you have an appropriate place on your web site, a link would be much appreciated!
Sincerely,
James |

I've visited the Web-site and it seems to me it is kind of wrapper above USPTO, does not offer a user-friendly query interface (you have to know all these features that USPTO is using) and most of all you are not able to access to a search result freely! Yes, you do not have to pay to view the patents but you have to register and leave your information. So it is not absolutely free as they claim.
What is the purpose of that and why should I register if I can do the same on USPTO Web-site or recently opened service Google Patent. So that is where I went to look for the patents. |

Hi, James.
For example, I would like to search patent number US3448857
And receive "Not availble":
Match Patent # Patent Title (click for full text)
1 3448857 [Title Not Available]
In USPTO this patent availble.
What is advantage of your resourse?
Hi,
It is available as an image: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3448857.pdf,
but you are correct that it is not available as text. Patents issued pre
1970-1976 do not exist as text, and the USPTO doesn't have them either,
except as images.
The benefits of FreePatentsOnline.com over the USPTO are almost too numerous
to list: The USPTO uses single page TIFF images (if you want to download
the entire document you have to click on every page and download
individually), while FreePatentsOnline uses PDFs. FreePatentsOnline has
account features such as portfolios to organize documents, the ability to
take notes on documents, share documents... the USPTO has none of that.
FreePatentsOnline also has data from other countries, while the USPTO does
not. And, FreePatentsOnline is way faster -- the USPTO site slows to a
crawl at peak times.
Sincerely,
James |
